““However many years she lived, Mary always felt that 'she should never forget that first morning when her garden began to grow'.”
- FRANCES HODGSON BURNETT, The Secret Garden
I vividly remember this time last year. It was spring, and I was heavily pregnant with my third child, thinking about how much everything was going to change again. I was ready to start a new chapter in my life and career, and this time I wanted to build something completely new and different. But I didn't know what...yet. So while I thought about it, I decided to plant a garden.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved to garden. Apart from cooking, there is no activity that gives me greater pleasure, fulfillment and absolute peace. Everything works itself out as I till the earth, plant seedlings, tend them, and watch them grow. As I walk my garden early each morning with a cup of steaming coffee, I'm always excited to see how much has happened overnight. Every bud, leaf and bloom is a miracle, and no matter how many times I watch it happen, it feels new, like seeing it for the first time.
It was while gardening, cooking in my kitchen, and much quiet reflection after having my third baby (in the final week of May), that I rediscovered myself. I decided to phase out of corporate life, and start a new business with Epicure, inspiring people to eat better and live healthier lives. You can read more here. Once you awaken to the truest parts of yourself, you can never go back.
Today I invite you to think about what you love. Is there something that comes from your very soul that makes you feel most alive? Now imagine doing that, not as a break from your regular life, but have it become your life. That's the dream isn't it?
For those of you fortunate enough to do what you love everyday, you are blessed. And for those of you that don't and may want something more, try to find a few moments in your busy life to reflect. Not so much on what you should do, but who you are in the deepest parts of yourself. Your path will reveal itself there.
Every one of us has treasure buried within. My hope and prayer is you find the one you were born and created to be.
With warmth, Gita
